The Renukoot facility holds a special place in our history as it was the very first plant we set up. Commissioned in 1962, just four years after our inception, this plant marked a major milestone in our contribution to the vision of an industrial India. This facility operates across the aluminium value chain, from bauxite mining and alumina refining to aluminium smelting and downstream rolling and extrusions. Originally commissioned with an annual smelting capacity of 20,000 tonnes, the unit has undergone various brownfield expansions and asset-sweating measures over the years to reach its current capacity of 410,000 tonnes.
The facility has also undertaken various community development initiatives across Dudhi, Babhani and Muirpur of Sonebhadra District, covering more than three lakh people from tribal and backward areas. CSR activities are routinely carried out in 385 villages in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh under the aegis of the Aditya Birla Centre for Community Initiatives and Rural Development. The Renukoot unit has also started a Miyawaki plantation patch. This is a proven technique to grow dense, self-sustainable plants and help reduce noise and dust pollution. The unit has also been a recipient of numerous national and international awards for its excellence in quality, environment management, and energy conservation.
