The story of India's aluminium industry began with the establishment of Belur Works in West Bengal. Located just 7km from Howrah Railway Station, this plant was set up in 1938 by INDAL with a modest capacity of 2,500TPA. Today, the Belur Works plant is owned by Hindalco Industries Ltd. and operates at a capacity of 55,000TPA, serving a diverse range of industries both in India and abroad.
Belur Works is equipped with a cast house, hot and cold rolling mills, annealing furnaces, and finishing lines like slitters, roll formers, a cut-to-length machine, a tension leveller (with de-greasing), and a circle punching machine.
The facility produces high-quality flat-rolled products for various industries such as closure stock for pilfer-proof caps, circles for pressure cookers and non-stick cookware, flooring and patterned sheets, foil stock for packaging, corrugated sheets for roofing, lamp caps for bulbs, alloyed sheets and plates, fin stock for air conditioners, and bus bars for electrical conductors.
The Belur plant holds certifications for quality and environment standards, and has received recognition at both state and national levels for its achievements in environment, water conservation, and safety. As a responsible corporate entity, Hindalco’s Belur Works actively engages in community development by spearheading initiatives focused on improving health, promoting adult education, and implementing income-generating schemes that directly benefit the local population.
