Chakla coal mines

Chakla is a greenfield coal mine in North Karanpura Coalfield in Latehar district of Jharkhand. The Ministry of Coal vested Chakla Coal Mine to Hindalco Industries Ltd. through a vesting order dated 3 March 2021 in the 11th tranche of the e-auction, under the Coal Mines (Special Provisions) Act. The mine has an extractable reserve of 71.88 MT with peak rated capacity of 5.3 MTPA as per the approved mine plan. The total block area of the coal mine is 863 Ha. Six coal seams are developed within the block with an average grade of G11. The Revised Mine Plan and Mine Closure Plan have been approved and the project is under various stages of the approval.

ESG

We are focusing on five key areas through our CSR initiatives: education, health, livelihood, rural infrastructure and social issues. The following are some of the activities carried out under our various projects.

  • Project Udaan aims to enhance education in four government schools by organising cultural programmes, providing mentors, distributing educational kits and offering free coaching.
  • Project Saheli focuses on improving hygiene and health, particularly among girls and women.
  • Project Arogya provides doorstep medical services, free medicines and ambulance facilities to villagers.
  • Project Aanchal supports pregnant women by offering free health check-ups and providing special kits.
  • Project Nikshay Mitra is dedicated to supporting TB patients through awareness campaigns and providing nutrition kits.
  • Project Swalamban and Project Yuva offer various skill development programmes for women and youth, including training in tailoring, jewellery making, mushroom cultivation and heavy earth moving machinery operation.
  • Project Nirmaan has contributed to rural infrastructure development by creating an eco-park, renovating community halls, constructing toilets and kitchens at schools, installing solar streetlights, and setting up solar-powered overhead water tanks.
  • Project Saath addresses various social issues, including distributing blankets, organising infectious disease awareness camps, offering financial support to families and distributing rations.
