Samri Bauxite Mines, operated by Hindalco Industries Ltd., is a semi-mechanised mining facility situated in Samri in Balrampur district of Chhattisgarh. Encompassing a sprawling area of 3,742 Ha, the mine operates under three distinct leases: Samri, Tatijharia and Kudag, along with two greenfield mines— Surbena-Khajri and Damchua (1,200 Ha). It is an opencast mine with an operational capacity of 9.6 LTPA of bauxite. The mine is accredited with Environmental Management System – ISO 14001: 2015, OH & SMS – ISO 45001: 2018, Quality Management System – ISO 9001: 2015 and Social Accountability Policy – SA 8000: 2014. The mine is located at an elevation of 1,140 m from mean sea level, with an annual mean rainfall of 1,500 mm. Samri Bauxite Mines has won various awards over the years. The mine has also bagged a IGMC gold medal.
Some of the best practices implemented in the mines include the use of Xcentric Rippers, simultaneous backfilling, operation of screening machines, the Samri Bio-Park project, rainwater harvesting ponds, the establishment of a green belt, and the creation of safety zones within the mine premises.
As part of CSR activities, we developed Aditya Vidya Mandir in Samri, aimed at providing free quality education to local students. We established Aditya Chikitsalaya, a primary healthcare centre, to strengthen medical facilities for the local community. This includes a 6-bed hospital with three dispensaries offering free medicines and ambulance services. A water ATM was also set up to provide hygienic drinking water at a nominal price.
