Mahan Aluminium is one of our state-of-the-art aluminium smelters, located in Bargawan, Madhya Pradesh. It features a 371KTPA aluminium smelter powered by Aluminium Pechiney’s AP-36 technology and a 900MW captive power plant. The complex also includes an integrated carbon plant. Mahan produces primary aluminium ingots and sows and value-added products such as billets and wire rods used in construction, transport, electrification, and other industrial applications. Mahan Aluminium is ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018, ISO 50001:2018, and ISO/IEC 27001:2013 certified.
Since its commissioning in 2015, the unit has established itself as one of the world's leading primary aluminium producers. Over 50% of its total production is exported to countries including the USA, Japan, Korea, Mexico, and Israel. Alumina, the unit’s most significant raw material, is sourced from our Utkal and Muri refineries. Production facilities at Mahan Aluminium include two 125KTPA Befesa ingot casting machines, a 50KTPA O.D.T. sow casting machine, a 100KTPA Properzi wire rod mill, and a 55KTPA Wagstaff billet casting machine.
On the sustainability front, Mahan Aluminium has installed an effluent and sewage treatment system to achieve zero liquid discharge. It is also undertaking initiatives to achieve zero landfill by conversion of waste to wealth. For example, it has installed an SPL crusher for crushing pot lining reject material and sending it to cement manufacturers instead of landfills. Mahan continues to explore eco-friendly practices for pre-processing and co-processing of hazardous and other waste materials. The unit is certified as 'Single Use Plastic free' by CII and has installed a 25MW AC capacity solar plant to promote renewable energy. It has also installed India's first semi-dry flue gas desulphurisation plant at the CPP to capture all sulphur pollutants from the exhaust flue gas. Mahan is constantly at the forefront when it comes to new technology that can help create a positive impact on the environment.
CSR activities at Mahan Aluminium focus on five key areas, namely education, health, sustainable livelihood, rural infrastructure development, and social empowerment with a vision to actively contribute to the social and economic development of the communities in which it operates. Its initiatives support 63,100 villagers in 11 gram panchayats, 14 villages and 15 wards of Bargawan Nagar Panchayat under the aegis of the Aditya Birla Centre for Community Initiatives and Rural Development. Mahan Aluminium has also given a life-changing opportunity to over 1628 people by training them to operate equipment at the facility, resulting in numerous job opportunities. This has benefited not only the individuals but also their families and the local community at large.
