The Uttar Pradesh Global Investors’ Summit (UPGIS), held from 10th to 12th February at Lucknow, brought together policy makers, corporate leaders, business delegations, academia, think-tanks, and political and government leadership from across the globe, to collectively explore business opportunities and forge partnerships.

The flagship event, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the presence of UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and prominent industrialists, saw 34 sessions spread over three days. Topics for discussion included UP designing and manufacturing for the world, leveraging cultural heritage for modern and progressive Uttar Pradesh tourism, sustainable development through renewable energy, and the advantage of the Uttar Pradesh defence corridor.

One of the key speakers at the inaugural event was our Chairman, Kumar Mangalam Birla, who said the Aditya Birla Group had invested Rs 40,000 crore in the state.

“At the heart of India’s economy is Uttar Pradesh. Seven of our group businesses are in UP employing 30,000 (people),” he said.

He also announced new investments of Rs.25,000 crore in the state. “As an early investor in the industrial journey of the state, we feel enthused by the rapid progress that the state is making. Today, the state can rightly be considered one of the key states driving India's journey towards a USD 5 trillion economy. And therefore, we are committing further investments to the tune of Rs.25,000 crore across our businesses, cement, metals, chemicals, financial services, and renewable energy.”

Hindalco & Uttar Pradesh: 60+ years of partnership

Hindalco's roots were planted in Uttar Pradesh in 1958, when our founding father, Shri G. D Birla, established India's first and only integrated aluminium facility at Renukoot. Over the years, it has grown to meet the requirements of the nation.

Today, Renukoot is Asia's largest integrated aluminium plant, with a 410 MTPA smelting capacity and downstream rolling and extrusion plants.

Hindalco’s booth at the UP Global Investors’ Summit was a true representation of its long-standing partnership with the state in business and beyond. The inclusion of a variety of interactive features on the stall provided one-of-a-kind immersive experience to the visitors. From Audio Pods and interactive walls to product displays, there was something to interest people of all ages.

One of the highlights of the event was when Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, and Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari, walked into our stall. The Hindalco team was happy to share some details of Renukoot’s journey and the wide span of solutions for transport, aerospace, defence, homes, kitchens, and more.
