A
pioneer among the country's aluminium manufacturers,
Indian Aluminium Company Limited (Indal) became
a part of the Aditya Birla Group in June 2000
as a subsidiary of Hindalco Industries Limited.
As
per the scheme of arrangement announced by the
board of directors of Hindalco and Indal on 23
August 2004, all the business undertakings of
Indal other than the aluminium foil business at
Kollur in Andhra Pradesh, were to be transferred
to Hindalco Industries Limited by way of a demerger.
From 7 March 2005, the de-merged units of Indal
(barring the Kollur plant), came under the corporate
identity of Hindalco Industries Limited.
The
Indal Kollur foil plant was originally a part of
Annapurna Foils Limited, the largest manufacturer
of aluminium foil in south India. The company was
acquired by Indal through a BIFR scheme in 2001
and later merged in April 2002. The state-of-the-art
plant with technology from the world-renowned Fata
Hunter of Italy, is located in Kollur village, Hyderabad,
in Andhra Pradesh.
